Development of brand image:

This development of my brand image really captures what my music magazine is about, in the sense that it represents my reader, therefore draws them in when they first see it on the shelf. The reason for using the background image of a brick wall is because it looks retro and vintage, which like my magazine is very fashionable at this moment in time. Also the image behind the V is of a Vinyl record with the iconic British air force logo within it, which was also an icon in the times of the mod’s and rockers, therefore again represents my audience and their fashion. This means that the audience can really relate to the magazine, this means greater interest.

More brand name ideas:

I came up with this brand name idea as it really represents my target audience, who are into older music and want to relive and the days of the 'vinyl' record.

More Fonts ideas for brand name:

Ideas:

All these fonts are very nice and stylish and would look good of my front cover but they do feel like they are right for my audience, as they do not really capture what i am trying to get across in my music magazine. Therefore i will not be choosing any of these for my final design and will be sticking with my original font ideas but anhance it further to make it cleare and more proffessional.

Vinyl brand name design idea 1:

Why did I choose the name Vinyl?
The reason for me choosing the name Vinyl to be the name of my music magazine as it very much suits the target audience I am aiming at; which is young adults and older teens who are into more 'indie' bands who are starting to sound more and more like bands from the 40's to 70's. This means that the word Vinyl fits comfortably in that catorgery, as vinyl records were being used all through this era and music was a huge part of life, especially in the 60's and 70's with such bands as the Beatles forming and changing the world of music. Also I gathered some 3rd party feed back about my choice and they seemed to really like the reasons why I choose it and thought it was "catchy and very easy to remember" from these comments I saw that the name Vinyl would be best for my music magazine therefore as you can see below I have already started to work on developing some designsfor my tittle:

Photo shoot ideas 2:

The sort of photo shoot feel that I want to create is very hard to obtain via casually picking any old place and making someone stand there, I need the right atmosphere, setting, props, clothing, expressions, lighting etc. without these then the photo is not eye catching and striking therefore I have gathered a few images of famous bands which revolve around my created artist. From these I can see that the image is what makes a band or solo artist without it they cannot express themselves. For my feature article the image will be very much retro and in a vintage style so that the reader and see what the artist is trying to portray in his music, without looking too deeply in the article; the connotations of the page.

Content page other artist planning:

Content page:
For my content page i will feature around 6-7 different artists, so that the reader can see all the main artists who are being features in this issue. For each of these artists i will not put a s much detail in them that i will be for my main artist, as otherwise there would not be any point having the featured artist. Also i will be featuring images of most of these artists so that the reader can see what they look like, and if they recognise them then they might go straight there, yet i will only use snippets of information about each of these articles, so that the reader has to actually read the article to find out about the bigger image.
Hopefully my content page will look similar to the one that can be seen of the right, as it is up to date, and the design is very smart and professional. The layout of my content page will be very similar as well with the feature article having a bigger image than the rest so that the reader is drawn into reading it, therefore increasing recognition of the magazine.
Most of the artists that i feature on my content page will not be very well known as i am trying to promote new bands who have only just got onto their own two feet in the music industry. Therefore will give the company a good way to advertise itself and bring in money from these bands.

Also i will try to make my content page really draw the readers eyes to these 'unkown' artists via using bold colours for the page numbers and big tittles, so that the reader see's them as soon as they open the page.

Q magazine analysis

Q magazine is an alternative music magazine. its published monthly in the UK; the company that publishes it is Bauer Consermer Media. The target audience for Q magazine are the older generation such as people in their 30's and 40's who are looking for a different type of read which s more relaxed and sophisticated, for those who simply want to know more about the music instead of what colour pants their favourite band is wearing. Although the magazines publishers say that they want to appeal to all the older genereation, it seems that Q magazine doesnt appeal to that catorgery as much as adults in their midlife. Q magazine does not really appeal to many women of this age this may be because of the music featured which is more older school rock, which is not very feminine.

Review of my problem page and Unit

Review of my problem page:

What went well: I personally thought that the design on my problem page works well, as it is striking, non-sexist, easy to navigate around and the colours are calming not bright and sickly. The reason for choosing such colours was because the main colour orange is a calm colour and it goes very well against the plain white background, making my problem page look professional and up to date. Also I believe that the articles that I made up work well with the fell of the overall magazine, especially the Question and Answer part of my problem page, which in the real world would really supply support for those in need of it.

What challenged me: To be perfectly honest not much really was out of my comfort zone at all, as I mainly used word processor to do most of the work I created in this unit, therefore creating the overall unit was somewhat easy. Although the analysis and writing part I did find quite tedious and difficult, as I have never had to go into so much detail about one magazine page before, picking out all of the very small but key things therefore that part was very time consuming. The final part I found challenging was managing my time, as I don’t believe I completed enough of the work in lessons therefore was pushed for time over the weekend, this meant I had less free time and of course would of had this time if I would have spent more time in lessons completing the work and concentrating more.

Why did I choose the type of design for my page: The reason for designing my problem page in the way I did was because I thought I should design a page that enticed the target audience by looking the part, with a calming but up to date main colour, which really stands out if you were flipping through a magazine.

Reflection of whole process: Overall I thought I did quite well in this Unit as my work seems to be up to scratch with the given criteria given, therefore I believe that I could not really of done anymore to make this Unit better than it is, as I used all assets I had to complete it.

review of three problem pages

Reviewing the three problem pages:

All three of the problem pages for starters have very feminine coloration's and therefore you can see straight away that the target audience that these pages are aimed at are female. For example pinks and purples have been used, light blues and reds, which are all colours we would associate with women. The images that have been used on all three of the problem pages are all very women based as they are either of women or things related to females e.g. baby’s, or a handsome man (Dr.Christian Jessen, from embarrassing bodies) therefore from this you can already tell whom it is aimed at.

The type of writing method used is almost in formal as it is as if it is a mothers meeting and they are all chatting away very casually giving each other helpful advice and tips for example problem page 1 is there to try and support and help women with problems either with children or family members. With problem page 2 it is also very similar as page 1 as it is about family problems and trying to give mothers support. In problem page 3 it mainly focusses on how to keep healthy and embarrassing medical problems to give advice to women who do not want to go to their doctors or star on TV.

All three have strap lines about advice for example problem page 1 has a strapline of page 2 has 'family dilemmas’ and page 3 has therefore this shows that these pages have all been made to help the reader and give them comforting advice which is both helpful and to the point but as the same time friendly. The way the magazines have done is both through the friendly chirpy images used and the calming happy colours around the text boxes and the whole page.

Pages one and two both have comforting openings on the left hand side asking the reader if they have any problems, which lets the reader know the page has been made to help. From all these points the target audience can clearly be seen as firstly females, and secondly it is clear that it is aimed at women from 30 and
upwards as the pages are mainly talking about family life and situations.

On problem page three they have a celebrity clinic so that the reader feels in touch and on the same level as that certain celebrity almost to let the reader know they have something in common with the A list life. Although this is not the case for pages 1 and 2 showing that maybe the magazine that features page three is a bit more gossipy and popular to mums and women.

In conclusion to these reviews all three pages are aimed at women with families who need help in civil dilemmas or medical situation which they are concerned about or too shy to go to their local do.
